"Strassenkinder Uganda e.V". is an organisation, based in Berlin (Germany) to support the children of AYDF (Assend Youth Development Foundation).
AYDF is a community based organisation which is working with street children in the slum of Mengo Kisenyi in Kampala. AYDF works as an Outreach for the street Kids.
AYDF is a community based organisation which is working with street children in the slum of Mengo Kisenyi in Kampala.
The kids are between 8 and 16 years old. Some of them ran away from home, because the parents could not take care for them. Others are orphans. The children sleep on the streets and earn some money by recycling empty bottles. Many of them start in young age using drugs. Their life is dominated by police violence, diseases and the daily fight to survive.
AYDF trys to rehabilitate the children to bring them away from the streets into saver life circumstances. The Founder of AYDF Moses Daniel himself grew up in the streets of Kampala. The deep experience of his own youth as a street child and the big fortune of getting help in this desperate situation motivated him to found AYDF. Most of the other helpers form AYDF are also former street children. Theier knowledge and experience guarantees a very good and intense connection to the children.
The work of AYDF consists of providing weekly food, hygienic minimum standards and taking health care.
To bring the children away from theier homelessness AYDF teaches them basic skills to fulfil a job. Right know the helpers teach them artisanals kills in Art and Crafts. The children produce earrings and necklaces to sell them and to run the project.
